ClipRead FAQ:

ClipRead is a software application that enables you to submit text, via the internet, to powerful parsing engines which reformat the text in a way which makes it easier to read and easier to understand, all while reducing the eyestrain associated with reading from a computer monitor. ClipRead takes whatever text you select and copy, sends it to the parser, and displays the reformatted text almost instantaneously.

What are the System Requirements?

Windows operating system
6 MB disk space
Active internet connection

Any text you can save to your Clipboard can be submitted for parsing. On the Web, popular choices include newspapers and magazines (like www.nytimes.com), document libraries (like the Library of Congress, www.loc.gov), public domain literature sites (like http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/), and the like. Sites which offer a "printer friendly format" are particularly suited for ClipRead.

You may also find yourself parsing longer e-mails (rather than printing them out!), or your own text documents: many find ClipRead useful for proofing their own writing for grammar and spelling errors. ClipRead dramatically improves out-loud reading fluency, so it is particularly suited for speeches and presentations.

This Windows error message is generated when the download process terminates prematurely and the entire install program is not successfully downloaded (the install program, ClipReadSetup.exe, should be about 5.5 MB).

If your repeated attempts to download are still unsuccessful, the problem may be connected to your browser: If you are using Microsoft Internet explorer, it has probably cached the incomplete file. Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS... > GENERAL and DELETE FILES. Next check the box to DELETE ALL OFF-LINE CONTENT and click OK. Now try downloading ClipRead again.

We do not experience this error message when we download using a Firefox browser.

Your subscription is intended for your own use on up to three computers.

No. ClipRead takes whatever is on your virtual Clipboard, and submits it to our parsers. Anytime you highlight and copy something, it is saved to your Clipboard, and it will remain there until you highlight and copy something else.

Live Ink software analyzes each sentence to find the best positions to break the sentence into short phrases. The software also uses visual criteria, so that all phrases fit into the eye's optimal span for viewing and scanning text.

Live Ink software varies the indentation of each new line to give the reader a visual cue of how each segment relates to the other segments in the sentence.

In regular block format, eye-tracking research has shown that better readers are quickly drawn to the verb phrases in a sentence. For this reason, Live Ink highlights these same words to assist all readers in quickly gaining this strategic information for more effective sentence comprehension.

ClipRead will not "word-wrap." Depending on the format you are reading in (1-column or 2-column), or if you have the ClipRead window set at a narrow width, the text will resize to fit the row.

Live Ink is not designed to be a speed reading program. Instead, Live Ink improves retention, comprehension and reading efficiency. Live Ink initially has no direct effect on one's reading speed, though regular users report improved reading times.

Live Ink helps readers at all levels of reading ability. The benefits of Live Ink are most evident when one is reading relatively challenging material.

Among our growing base of users are lawyers, college professors, scientists, accountants, and executives in Fortune 500 companies.

Surveys of readers found that Live Ink actually reduces the frequency of eyestrain. Compared to reading regular block text, Live Ink reduced the frequency of eyestrain symptoms by 75%.
